A few years ago, right on this very spot, stood our family-run Hotel Tappeiner. But as times changed, so did we. And that's why we created The Hills Merano.
A place where we still get to welcome you, just with a little more freedom to be yourself, live at your own pace and stay your own way.Less like traditional guests, more like friends we've made space for.
Our own family and friends are spread all over the world. And so are our guests.
And because everyone has different preferences — and different ideas of a good holiday — we wanted to give you space to have yours.
DO A LOT. OR VERY LITTLE.
Some come for the trails — the sunny Tappeiner Promenade right behind the house, the Waalwege or higher alpine hikes once the snow melts.
Some come for the food: long lunches, local wine, Törggelen in autumn or an aperitivo in town that lasts longer than planned.
Others come for the thermal baths, gardens and changing seasons. Spring turns everything green, summer means early hikes and long evenings, autumn brings wine and colour, and winter comes with skiing in the mountains and Christmas markets down in Merano.
And honestly? Some come for none of it.
A balcony, a view and absolutely nothing on the schedule sounds pretty good to us, too.

NOT EVERYONE HAS TO LOVE HIKING.
The nice thing is, you don't all have to want the same thing >> One of you can head out for a hike while someone else wanders into Merano for coffee, shopping or aperitivo. And if one of you would rather stay on the balcony with the view? Also a very good plan.
The Hills gives you space for the moments you do want to share — slow mornings, dinner together, long evenings — and enough freedom for everyone to do their own thing in between.

- 15 MIN — by car to Merano 2000 for hiking and skiing
A little heads-up: the last few minutes back home are uphill. That's also how you get that view. :)
AND WHO'S BEHIND THE HILLS?
We're Ilina and Martine — daughter and mum, born and raised right here in South Tyrol.
We're usually on the run, love discovering new places and meeting people along the way — but we're also very different travellers ourselves.
Ilina has a thing for beautiful spaces, new places and those that still feel genuinely local. Martine is more about the sunny side of life: good food, relaxing and taking her time.

Merano is one of those places that's hard to put in a box. An alpine town where palm trees grow below mountain peaks, Italian and South Tyrolean culture meet, and a hike can quite easily end with a very long lunch.
Go up to the mountains. Spend the afternoon at the thermal baths. Find a winery. Wander through town.
Or stay on the balcony. Also a very good plan.
